IDF expects 1,000-1,500 rockets daily in next Lebanon war
IDF briefs municipalities on northern front war scenarios • IDF Northern Command officer: 27% of Israelis don’t have shelters or readily available protection • Outgoing IDF Homefront Command chief: “Homefront has become the main theater [of war].”
The IDF’s Homefront Command is preparing for a potential scenario in a future war with Hezbollah in which the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group fires 1,000 to 1,500 rockets per day at Israel, a senior IDF officer told reporters on Tuesday.
The IDF has drafted a new set of potential scenarios on the northern front and in recent days has briefed municipalities on the scenarios and protocols relevant to them.
A senior IDF Northern Command officer said 27% of Israeli citizens do not have shelters or readily available protection from rocket attacks.
Israeli military officials have said that while during Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip last summer Israeli citizens were largely protected from Hamas rocket fire by the Iron Dome system, a war on the northern front would be much different, given Hezbollah’s more advanced capabilities.
