UK Muslim who tried to join Islamic State: “there’s no life, no life without Jihad”

He earlier tried to get into Syria along with his father. So apparently he learned his Islam That Has Nothing to Do with Islam at home — he wasn’t “radicalized on the Internet.”

“Coventry man ‘wanted martyrdom’ in Syria,” BBC, May 18, 2015:

Zakariya Ashiq denies two counts of preparing acts of terrorism

A young British Muslim repeatedly tried to join Islamic State in Syria in a bid to achieve his ambition of becoming a martyr, his trial has heard.

Zakariya Ashiq, 20, from Coventry, left the UK in November, but was forced to return after failing to cross the border from Jordan into Syria, the Old Bailey was told.

He was arrested at Heathrow airport as he flew home on 20 November.

Mr Ashiq denies two counts of preparing acts of terrorism.

The prosecution said exchanges found on his mobile phone revealed he appealed to two friends, who had allegedly previously travelled to Syria, for help in crossing the border.
‘No life without Jihad’

In one post on the WhatsApp messaging service he wrote: “Oh, seriously man, just get me there, man… I don’t know how you gonna get me, but you have to get me across.”
