German Foreign Minister, Dr Frank Walter Steinmeier, receives honorary doctorate from Hebrew University
Welcomed warmly as an old friend, Dr Frank Walter Steinmeier, Foreign minister of Germany, arrived at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem this week to receive his honorary doctorate at the Hebrew University.
Honored for his outspoken support for Israel the minister addressed the ceremony attendees, commending the 50 year strong German-Israel relationship.
President of the Hebrew University Prof. Menahem Ben-Sasson said: “Dr. Steinmeier is a leading European statesman who plays a decisive role in important initiatives. As Minister for Foreign Affairs and in his various posts within the German government, Dr. Steinmeier has been a valued supporter and friend of Israel, a respected envoy on challenges facing the Middle East and beyond, and a committed critic of antisemitism. For these reasons it gives us great pleasure to award him our highest honor, Doctor Philosophiae Honoris Causa.”
Far from his first visit to Israel, Dr Steinmeier has quickly become firm friends with Haim Shkedi and Sheldon Ritz, General Manager and Deputy General Manager at King David Hotel, pictured welcoming him to the hotel warmly.
