Associated Press photo shows gun pointed at Ted Cruz’s head
A photo created Saturday by Associated Press photographer Charlie Neibergall shows a very large handgun pointed directly at Ted Cruz’s head. The photo is captioned: “Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, speaks during a ‘Celebrate the 2nd Amendment Event,’ Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the CrossRoads Shooting Sports in Johnston, Iowa. (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall)”
“I can’t wait to see a similar photo involving leftist Democratic Party 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who perhaps to many readers’ surprise, has to a fair extent been a supporter of Second Amendment rights,” Newsbusters’ Tom Blumer wrote. Blumer noted that a Bing search shows “little evidence” that AP subscribers have used the photo.
A post at Breitbart.com wondered what would happen if the same image were taken of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi or Gabrielle Giffords, the Democratic House member shot in 2011. At the time, liberals blamed Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and the Tea Party instead of the person who actually pulled the trigger. According to many on the left, the shooting was inspired by a poster put out by Palin’s PAC that showed cross-hairs on districts held by Democrats.
A number of people on Twitter expressed their outrage over the photo, Twitchy said. Many echoed the same concerns put forward by Blumer and Breitbart.com.
“I highly doubt if Cruz had a D behind his name you would do something as suggestive as this,” one person said on Twitter. “Shame on your #bias.”
“Deliberate framing by the photographer,” another Twitter user added. “Deliberate choice by editors. For shame.”
