French Media Dismiss Muslim Church Vandal as Deranged
A man described as a Tunisian Muslim of about 30 years old has been held by French police for alleged extensive vandalism of the church of Saint-Hippolyte and the nearby basilica of Saint-Francois-de-Sales in Thonon-les-Bains, France, before 8 a.m. Aug. 5, according to Diversity Macht Frei.
But the author of this article said he could find only one published reference to the man as Muslim.
“With exceptional force, the person overturned and broke two altars, the candelabras and lecterns, destroyed statues, tore down a tabernacle, twisted a massive bronze cross, smashed in a sacristy door and even broke some stained-glass windows,” he reported.
“According to the priest Le Tué, it was a “young Muslim”, but the hypothesis of a religious motivation still has to be confirmed…. according to the Thonon priest “there is desecration but also sacrilege, since the Eucharist (hosts) were trampled on.” The hosts Catholics believe are the Real Presence of Christ under the appearance of bread.”
