First things first.

Maca plant is native to the highlands of Peru. It’ been cultivated there for over 2000 years. It grows at the highlands of Peru between 10.000 (3000m) and 15.000 (4500m) feet. The turnip-like root of the plant is harvested and then dried for use in cookies, baked goods, juices, syrups, blender drinks and of course in medicine. For all these reasons Maca’s popularity has spread throughout Peru, to Europe, Asia and United States.

Today Maca is consumed by men, women and children because has a positive effect on hormone balance, energy levels and is a health booster. Maca is good source of iron, calcium (higher than milk), magnesium, iodine and potassium. Dried Maca plant contains about 60% carbohydrate, 10% protein, 2.2% lipid content and a number of sterols like sitosterol, campestrol, ergosterol, ergostadienol and brassicasterol. Because of its unique properties Maca plant is considered one of the world’s natural super foods.
