Al-Qaeda in Lebanon to ward off Iran


BEIRUT: The leader of an al-Qaeda-linked militant group said Wednesday that they have a strong presence in Lebanon and aim to minimize Iranian influence in the region.

“Abdullah Brigades is still active in Lebanon through a large number of scattered cells,” said Sirajeddine Zuraiqat, the religious leader of Abdullah Azzam Brigades, a Lebanon-based Sunni offshoot of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

He stated that although he was forced to flee Lebanon due to “harassment by Lebanese Army Intelligence under Hezbollah instructions,” the group remains active in the area.
