**** YOU UN: UNESCO declares that the 2nd and 3rd Holiest sites in Judaism are actually Muslim holy sites that are part of a “Palestinian State”
UNESCO has decreed that the second and third holiest sites in the Jewish faith are actually Muslim. At the same time, the initial draft proposal declaring that the Western Wall was also a Muslim holy site was withdrawn after facing widespread criticism.
Aretz Sheva just reported that UNESCO passed a resolution proclaiming that both the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron and Rachel’s Tomb are Islamic holy sites. It passed with 26 in favor, 6 voting against, and 25 abstentions. The resolution also condemned Israel for archeological excavations in the Old City of Jerusalem. The initial draft resolution had also claimed that the Western Wall was an Islamic holy site but that part was withdrawn after it received widespread criticism.
Both the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the World Jewish Congress had condemned labeling the Western Wall as an Islamic holy site. According to World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder, “For thousands of years, Jews have lived and prayed in Jerusalem. Since 1967, the State of Israel has safeguarded the right of free worship for all three monotheistic religions present in Jerusalem, including the right of Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. However, declaring the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest place, is a Muslim site would be a travesty. Instead of fostering peace, it would only encourage extremists to step up their campaign against the Jews, both in Israel and beyond.”
The Simon Wiesenthal Center added that the resolution is a red line for the entire Jewish world as it constituted an attack upon Judaism: “If such a resolution would be approved, it would certainly increase the violence in Jerusalem and destroy any prospects for peace in the Middle East. The resolution would damage UNESCO’s core mission of protecting historic and religious sites around the world. Declaring the Western Wall an Islamic site would be like turning over the Sinai to ISIS.” They added that the Supreme Muslim Council between 1924 and 1953 even stated the following about the Temple Mount: “The site is one of the oldest in the world. Its sanctity dates from the earliest times. Its identity with the site of Solomon’s Temple is beyond dispute.”
However, even though the resolution that was passed did not label the Western Wall as an Islamic holy site, this UNESCO resolution can still be considered a major blow to the State of Israel and to Jewish people worldwide. The Tomb of the Patriarchs, which is the burial place of all of Israel’s patriarchs and matriarchs except for Rachel, is the second holiest site in Judaism. Adam and Eve are also believed to have been
