According to Stanford University scientists, our bodies are in the way that we should poop while squatting, not sitting. In a research, conducted in 2003, 28 people were observed while pooping in three different positions: sitting on a high toilet, squatting and sitting on a lower toilet. The researchers found out that the process of fecal elimination in squatting position lasted shorter than other positions. The difference was about one minute, plus participants claim that it was much easier to do.
“There is definitely some physiologic sense to squatting,” says Anish Sheth – gastroenterologist and co-author of the “What’s your poo telling you?” book.
According to “Everydayhealth”, while we stand, the colon, where all the waste is stored, is pressed against the puborecatlis muscle. This position keeps the fecal continence exactly until it is time to go to the bathroom. Sitting down will only partially relax that muscle. On the other hand, the puborecatlis muscle is fully relaxes while squatting. This is because in this position the colon is essentially straightened.
