Israeli aviation experts: Russian plane crash investigation conclusions are a potential game changer
Israeli civil aviation experts explain that if the conclusions of the investigation into the Russian plane crash in the Sinai Peninsula indicate that an Islamic State bomb had been placed on the plane, it would have serious consequences with regards to the world of aviation.
As the investigation into the Russian plane crash in the Sinai Peninsula advances, evidence points more clearly to the crash being a result of an Islamic State terror attack. Aviation experts warn that if the investigation concludes a bomb placed on the plane caused the crash, it would affect the world of aviation.
“It could be a serious game changer,” Giora Rom, former director of Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority stated in a conversation with Channel 2 News. “Flight security is a pressing matter as it is. Its total global cost reaches billions of dollars a year. Most of the work is done when securing the planes and holding security checks for passengers. In order to better secure the plane in advance, the world needs to update its entire security conception.”
Rom described the difficulties in creating a sterile environment for the plane before take-off: “A plane can sometimes wait on the ground for several hours. During that time, many people are around it like the ground team and cleaners. Increasing security would require examining all these people.”
