Two of three men injured in the stabbing Wednesday afternoon outside the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem have succumbed to wounds incurred at the scene.

“Despite vigorous efforts to save him, the wounded man has passed away. The hospital extends its condolences to the family,” Shaare Zedek Medical Center said in a statement regarding the first victim who suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

He has been identified as Ofer Ben Ari, a 46-year-old resident of Jerusalem. He is survived by his wife and two children.

The second victim has been identified as Reuven Birmacher, 45; he suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack. Hadassah Medical Center announced his death just under an hour after Ben Ari’s. Birmacher is survived by his wife and seven children.

Recuperating at Shaare Zedek is another of the victims, who was seriously injured in the stabbing. His surgery was a success and he is now in stable condition.

The two Arab terrorists who conducted the stabbing were later identified as a pair of former convicts from Qalandiya, both of whom were arrested for terrorism and imprisoned in the past.

Two alert Border Police officers neutralized the pair after they stabbed the three Israelis outside Jerusalem’s Old City. One of the terrorists was eliminated at the scene; the second was neutralized and arrested.

According to statements from eyewitnesses, one of the terrorists attempted to attack others with his knife after being shot. He was neutralized by security forces as well
