At least ten people have been killed and 15 others injured after a massive explosion ripped through a tourist district of Istanbul.
Turkish officials suspect the blast was caused by a terror attack, with State-run TRT television reporting that it was likely detonated by a suicide bomber.
A police officer and witness at the scene reported seeing body parts after the blast, while pictures showed corpses strewn across a central square.
Ambulances rushed to the site in Sultanahmet district, which is popular with tourists, ferrying away the wounded.
Police sealed off the area, barring people from approaching in case of a second blast.
Erdem Koroglu, who was working at a nearby office, told NTV television he saw several people lying on the ground.
‘It was difficult to say who was alive or dead,’ he said. ‘Buildings rattled from the force of the explosion.’
