An exciting discovery has revealed a set of 1,700-year-old tombstones in the ancient city of Tzipori, near the Galilee. The slabs are inscribed with the names of rabbis in Aramaic and Greek, allowing a glimpse into daily life and identity in the 4th century.
Tzipori was a very prominent Jewish city after the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem. It was there that Rabbi Yehuda Hanasi created the Mishna, a compilation of Jewish oral tradition and wisdom.
