‘Hadar acted with courage and determination’

Details emerge of Border Police officer’s heroic actions in preventing attack of much worse scale in heart of Jerusalem.

As the investigation into the deadly shooting and stabbing near Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate on Wednesday continues, a fuller picture has emerged of the Border Police officers’ heroism in preventing a worse attack.

A team of four police officers, two men and two women, spotted two Arabs sitting on a bench. When they approached and demanded to see their identity cards, one opened fire while the other rushed at the police officers with a knife.

Hadar Cohen managed to kill one of the terrorists, before a third attacker came and shot her in the head, critically wounding her. She died several hours later at Hadassah Mount Scopus hospital from wounds sustained in the attack.

The second female police officer injured in the attack also managed to fend off one of the terrorists, wrestling with him despite stab wounds all over her body. Initially seriously injured, her condition has improved and is now listed as moderate.

As stated, Cohen managed to kill one terrorist while the second was shot dead by another Border Police officer at the scene. The third terrorist, who attacked Cohen from behind, was eliminated by a police officer who arrived later.

Chief Superintendent Shlomi Yosef, the commander of Cohen’s Border Police unit, praised her “heroic and determined actions in cocking her weapon and eliminating the terrorist,” before
