Obama Tells Muslims They Have a Right To Be Free of ‘Divisive Rhetoric.’ Goodbye, First Amendment.
Today, President Obama is slated to speak at the Islamic Society of Baltimore. There, he’ll lay out his vision of a First Amendment-free world in which everybody lives in the shadow of leftism’s all-protecting Feelings Domain™ — except for you, you intolerant bastard. According to CBS White House Correspondent Mark Knoller:
Now, leave aside that Obama rarely talks about anti-Semitism, even though Jews represent 60.3 percent of all religious hate crimes victims, while just 13.7 percent of such victims are Muslims. Focus instead on the insane assertion that Muslims have the right to practice their religion without “divisive rhetoric from the campaign trail.”
No such right exists.
President Obama routinely says he’s for the First Amendment, but then he drops lines like this with no forethought. You do not have the right to do anything without rhetoric about it in the United States. That’s what free speech is.
What’s worse, Obama’s latest disgusting denigration of First Amendment freedoms in the name of Islam matches up with his long record on this score. This is the man who told the United Nations, “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”
This is the same administration — Hillary Clinton’s State Department, actually — that backed UN Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18 in 2011, which condemned “any advocacy of religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence, whether it involves the use of print, audio-visual or electronic media or any other means.” That resolution also included a provision calling for “actions to foster a domestic environment of religious tolerance, peace and respect,” and requested “measures to criminalize incitement to imminent violence based on religion or belief.”
