ISIS’ UK hit list: Jihadis planning ‘imminent’ attack on Britain’s ‘soft targets’

FOREIGN and homegrown jihadis fighting for Islamic State (ISIS) have a detailed hit-list of Britain’s so-called soft targets in preparation for an attack that could take place “at any time”.


That is the warning from the former head of the UK’s National Counter Terrorism Security Office, who urged the public to remain vigilant, saying there is “always a possibility of imminent attack”.

Chris Phillips, a terror specialist once tasked with protecting highly-vulnerable crowded places from attack, said the threat of a strike by ISIS has been increasing over the past year.

He told “ISIS is a terrorist group that has ambitions of carrying out an enormous attack.

“It wants to propagate the notion that no one is safe from attack in the western world and everyday life could be disrupted at any time.”

The group is said to have a “hit-list”, which Mr Phillips said would include national landmarks, critical national infrastructure and transport links.

These could include Government buildings, tourists attractions, train stations, airports and main arterial roads, as well as power stations and communication masts.

An attack on any of these would cause “untold amounts of damage”, he said, while providing substantial propaganda materials for ISIS.

The terror expert, now an advisor to the Security & Counter Terror Expo, added: “The threat of terrorist activity has been high in the UK for some time now, and the reality is that we live in a world where there is always a possibility of imminent attack.”
