THIS IS YOUR NATO ALLY” Turkish MP tweets ‘May your kingdom be damned’ after Brussels attacks
At least 34 were killed and 136 others were injured after a series of blasts hit the departure hall of Zaventem airport in Brussels and a metro station in the Belgian capital.
The bombings were claimed by so-called Islamic State (IS) through a statement published by IS connected Amak News Agency.
The explosions come four days after the Brussels arrest of the only known survivor of the group of 10 Islamic attacks who killed 130 people in various suicide bombings and shootings in Paris in November.
Following the suicide bombings, two officials from Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) made shocking remarks on their social media accounts.
One of the officials, AKP’S Kırklareli Organization Manager, Kaan Algur, shared a photo of the Brussels airport shortly after the attacks, joined with a photo of a pro-Kurdish tent with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) flags, set up near the EU council building in Brussels by Kurdish activists on his Facebook account.
He commented a Turkish proverb in relation to the picture: “Life is like a boomerang, what you do will return to you”.
Algur’s remarks seem to be suggesting that he justifies Tuesday’s Brussel attacks due to the pro-Kurdish tent that was allowed to be set up in front of the EU building in Brussels.
Activists set up the tent to protest against the ongoing operations in Kurdish towns in Turkey’s southeast and for the release of jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.
