Turkey plans to send millions of Syrians to Europe as Turks
Ahead of EU’s decision of Turkey to be handed visa-free travel to the European Union for its 75 million citizens, Erdogan has revealed Turkey’s plan for the Syrian refugees in the country.
Millions of refugees taken in by Turkey over the last five years will be offered citizenship, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said, according to the British newspaper Express.
The country, which is currently in talks to join the European Union, has taken at least 2.7 million Syrians into its shelters.
Speaking in Kilis province, south Turkey, which hosts 120,000 Syrians, Erdogan said: “There are steps our interior ministry has taken on the issue.”
“We will give the chance to acquire citizenship by helping out these brothers and sisters by monitoring through offices set up by the ministry.”
