Turkish “failed coup” fallout: US Nuclear Bombers Under Siege At Incirlik Airbase
Erdoghan’s staged “failed coup attempt” has created an ongoing saga currently culminating with a siege on NATO’s Incirlik airbase in Southern Turkey, which hosts US nuclear bombers and which has been alleged to play a key role in the staged “coup”. At this point even some of the mainstream talking heads begun discussing the possibility that this is Erdoghan’s “Reichstag fire” moment, a staged provocation meant to consolidate power and crush the opposition. This theory has been strengthened by evidence from Turkish troops who said they thought they were participating in a drill (that was obviously flipped live). The siege on Incirlik suggests this may be far more than just a domestic power grab, and the consequences could be far more dramatic.
Following the failed Turkish coup, U.S. military operations out of Turkey’s giant Incirlik Air Base – critical in the ongoing campaign against ISIS – came to a halt Saturday afternoon as the Turkish military closed the airspace around the base and suspended all US-led operations, mostly targeting the Islamic State.
A statement posted by the US embassy in Turkey said that local authorities are denying movements on to and off of Incirlik Air Base adding that the power there has also been cut.
