Parents Of American Captured By ISIS Outraged Obama Broke His Word To Them
The parents of Kayla Mueller, who was taken captive by ISIS in 2013 and accidentally killed in February 2015 during a Jordanian airstrike on the terrorist group, are rebuking President Barack Obama for breaking his word to them.
When Obama met with the Muellers a month after their daughter’s death, he told them he wanted to help.
“He asked what he could do for you,” said Marsha Mueller, Kayla’s mother, recalling their private meeting with Obama when the president visited Phoenix.
Obama promised a donation to the foundation that was set up to honor their daughter.
“He says, ‘You won’t know, it’ll be an anonymous donation, but I will,’” said Carl Mueller, Kayla’s father.
Seventeen months later, they are angry that Obama did not keep his word.
“I’m still waiting for that donation, Mr. President,” Mueller said in an interview that will air Friday on ABC’s 20/20.
ABC contacted the White House for a response and was given a statement.
“The president will continue to support the goals of the organization in different ways, including by making a donation, as pledged to the Mueller family,” the statement said.
