Obama Reaches 10,000 Syrian Refugee Goal


National Security Adviser Susan Rice announced in a statement that the Obama administration has reached its target of resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees by October 1.

Rice said that the final Syrian refugee to hit this target would be arriving to the United States on Monday afternoon.

“On behalf of the President and his Administration, I extend the warmest of welcomes to each and every one of our Syrian arrivals, as well as the many other refugees resettled this year from all over the world,” Rice said.

With the target of resettling 10,000 refugees hit, it doesn’t seem likely that the Obama administration is going to stop bringing more refugees into our country, despite many concerned Americans believing that taking in these refugees is opening our doors for potential terrorism.

Rice called the move a “meaningful step that we hope to build upon.”

The US ambassador to Jordan, Alice Wells, Sunday described the resettlement numbers as “a floor, not a ceiling.”

David Miliband, president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, used similar language as Wells, saying he hopes the U.S. will continue to take in more refugees,
