CIVIL WAR: Sweden descends into further chaos as a homemade bomb thrown at people dining at restaurant
SWEDEN: An unknown assailant threw a caustic soda bomb at people dining outside at the terrace of a restaurant in Gävle. Several people were at the restaurant when the incident – or rather act of terror – occurred, just after midnight, reports Arbetarbladet.
– Someone threw a homemade bomb at the terrace where people were eating, most likely a so-called caustic soda bomb, which is corrosive. According to the initial information, it was thrown from a car that drove past, but witnesses say someone had crept up behind the restaurant and threw it over a fence onto the terrace, says Sven-Erik Hammar, police duty officer.
None of those who were in the restaurant were injured when the bomb exploded, but one person got pain in a ear due to the blast. However no one had to be taken to hospital.
The area around the terrace was sealed off and police and rescue personnel were equipped with gas masks as the air at the scene was unbreathable.
– We have cordoned off the area to keep people at a distance until we knew what it is, says Sven-Erik Hammar.
