RAF jets scrambled to intercept two Russian NUCLEAR bombers off coast of UK

RAF jets have intercepted two Russian bombers flying off the coast of Scotland in the latest incursion by Moscow’s warplanes in UK airspace.


The Tupolev Tu60s, which are equipped to fire nuclear missiles, were intercepted heading towards the UK.

They continued to fly towards Ireland before tacking south to France and Spain, where they were picked up in separate locations off Spain’s northern Atlantic coast, close to the city of Bilbao.

British Typhoons were involved alongside French Rafale jets and Spanish F-18s.

The Russian bombers – codenamed Blackjack by NATO – were first spotted on Norwegian radar on the morning of September 22 as they tracked across northern Europe.

The Norwegian Air Force dispatched two fighter F16 fighter jets to escort the intruders to northern Scotland, where two British Typhoon took over, escorting them around the east coast of Ireland and taking them to Bretagne in Northwestern France.

Two Rafale fighters from an air base in Tours took off to intercept the Russian planes less than a hundred miles from the French coast.

Once in Spanish territory, near the coast of Bilbao, two F-18 from the Spanish Air Force escorted the jets along the northern coast.
