“She’s taking some credit and she’s raising money because of it,” Robert O’Neill said on Fox and Friends on Wednesday. “I don’t want to take away from the part she had, but we didn’t kill Osama bin Laden because of Hillary Clinton.
Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time bin Laden was killed, discussed the raid in speeches she gave for Goldman-Sachs, according to emails leaked by WikiLeaks.
“I was in the small group that recommended to the president that he go after bin Laden,’ Clinton said in 2013 to a Toronto business group.
“The amount of work that was required to get a strong-enough basis of information on which to plan took more than a decade … and then all of a sudden putting this matrix together and saying, ‘This guy used to protect bin Laden – he has just made a phone call. He said this in the phone call. We need to figure out where he is. Then we need to follow him,’” Clinton continued.
Clinton has also brought up the raid during her campaign as evidence of her experience.
O’Neill was irked that she is using the episode to her advantage, when others who risked their lives did so for higher motives.
