UK Olympic gymnast has had death threats for mocking Islam
Not only has he had death threats, but British authorities appear wholly indifferent to their provenance, and meanwhile are hounding Smith, possibly out of his sport altogether: “Louis said that he will be interviewed about what happened by British Gymnastics on Monday and the matter will then go to a disciplinary hearing. He said that he does not want to retire from the sport.”
Why should his view of Islam have anything whatsoever to do with whether or not he performs as a gymnast? Is Britain a Sharia state now, in which criticism of Islam is forbidden? Would Smith be facing the prospect of the ruin of his career and violent assault by murderous thugs if he had mocked Christianity?
Smith himself, meanwhile, is rushing to issue groveling apologies. While embarrassing and regrettable, this is understandable: he’s being menaced by jihadis, excoriated in the press, and threatened by the governing body of his sport. He is completely isolated. The only difference between how he is being treated in Britain today and how he would be being treated were he in Saudi Arabia is that in Saudi Arabia there would be less media coverage and likely the death threats would have already been implemented.

Olympic medal-winning gymnast Louis Smith has told BBC 5 live that he’s had death threats “every day” since a video was leaked showing him mocking Islamic prayers.
Talking to Emma Barnett, he admitted that he and fellow gymnast Luke Carson were drunk when they filmed the late-night video, which started with singing songs from the musical Aladdin after a wedding, and ended up with them using a rug to imitate the Muslim call to prayer.
